Boon Boona Coffee is a minority owned roastery/cafe out of Renton, WA. We are hiring for a Cafe Manager. Boon Boona Coffee began its journey over 10 years ago by procuring quality African green coffee for the East African community. In 2016, we started roasting our own coffee and in the beginning of 2019, our brick & mortar roastery/cafe came to life. On the green coffee side of the things we are committed to supporting transparent, equitable and sustainable coffee practices. In our roastery/cafe, we are eager to nurture a culture that is empathetic, cooperative, arts & science-driven, and community oriented. Guidance and financial support to participate in coffee competitions
Coffee sensory evaluation (cupping) training that is designed with CQI's Q Grader curriculum in mind
Training on sample & profile roasting upon demonstrated interest
Financial and logistical support for extra-curricular projects when possible
Guidance and training on syrup and beverage production
Position's basic responsibilities:
Manage all daily operations of the retail caf and the caf employees
Lead, coach, motivate all caf employees and schedule weekly work shifts
Oversee scheduling of all employees
Manage (track and place order for) inventory of ingredients, supplies and merchandise
Onboarding and training of new employees
Communicate and Support Director of Operations with assigned tasks and duties
Coordinate monthly art, events, and pop-ups
Be empathic and open-minded with your teammates
Provide engaging and polite customer service
Oversee the preparation of coffee, espresso- and tea-based drinks according to recipes
Oversee and help facilitate beer & wine program
Ensure adherence to health and safety standards
Handle money with accuracy and accountability, review accuracy of barista work, break change from local bank
Demonstrate punctuality
Consistency that barista s open, close and side-work duties as defined by cafe checklist
Communicate clearly and directly with Director of Operations about any issues that arise
Seek opportunities for professional growth
Physical components and requirements of this position:
Outstanding leadership and communication skills
Two years of barista experience
Demonstrated experience managing staff and some aspects of retail operations (scheduling, ordering)
Knowledge of food safety standards and proper food handling procedures
Some experience or relevant experience with managing a beer & wine program
Passionate about delivering excellent customer service
Willingness to accept feedback
35-40 hours per week, one weekend day required per week
4 days on bar and 1 day administrative work (potential for adjustment)
Perform reviews with baristas
Standing for extended periods
Stooping frequently
Repetitive motions
Occasionally lifting up to 30-40 lbs
Compensation & perks:
Starting pay rate is $24.93/hr + tips when working on the floor. $27.50/hr for administrative, off the floor duties- no tips for administrative work.
Comprehensive health benefits package (medical, dental, vision)- available after 60 days and maintained at 25+ hours per week.
