Job Description Summary

The Biochemist II is responsible for independently performing laboratory functions related to tissue culture production. This includes hybridoma roller bottle culture, ascites production, insect cell shaker culture, recombinant protein expression, antibody purification, and in-process assays. The role requires strong sterile technique, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot and complete assignments on time with high quality. May require occasional weekend, holiday, or on-call work to culture cells.

Job Responsibilities: (Primary Duties, Roles, and/or Authorities)

• Perform hybridoma roller bottle culture under aseptic conditions.

• Recombinant protein, insect cell shaker, and ascites production.

• May be asked to execute purification protocols including affinity chromatography, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatography.

• May be asked to operate and maintain purification systems such as AKTA Pure.

• Prepare buffers, media, and chemical solutions according to SOPs

• Analyze purified proteins using SDS-PAGE, LAL, and Sterility

• Maintain accurate records of experiments and results in electronic lab notebooks

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project goals and timelines.

• Present findings in team meetings and contribute to technical reports.

• Ensure compliance with GMP standards, safety protocols, and company policies.

• Create quality notifications and initiate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) using SAP.

• Foster a safe work environment by offering recommendations for maintaining workplace safety and actively participating in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Address corrective actions whenever hazards are identified and promptly resolve any safety issues or incidents.

• Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma/GED: Required and

• BA/BS Degree – Required – Life Sciences, Chemistry or a related field.

• 2+ years of hands-on experience in hybridoma cell culture production is highly preferred.

• Experience with monoclonal antibody or recombinant protein purification is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience with automated systems, AKTA systems desired

• Decision Making Ability - Proficient

• Analytical/Troubleshooting / Problem Solving - Proficient

• Quality Systems Knowledge – Proficient

• Computer Skills / Microsoft Office - Basic

• ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 – Basic

Physical Demands:

May need to lift approximately 20 lbs and climb a 2-step ladder

Work Environment:

Manufacturing Floor: some areas may have low light environment, Controlled Non-Classified Cleanrooms

Salary Range Information

$70,200.00 - $115,800.00 USD Annual
